Social Housing Sites Identified for Inner-Melbourne
As part of its $5.3 billion Big Housing Build program, the Victorian government has announced two sites for the construction of new social and affordable housing.
The houses, which will be built beside existing public housing in Collingwood and South Yarra, will be added to a number of other projects currently underway in the initiative to deliver over 12,000 new homes.
The project will build 150 residences on Wellington Street in Collingwood.
Hayball has been updating the masterplan for the project on Simmons Street in South Yarra, which will see 330 new homes delivered in stage one. Fieldwork has been appointed principal design consultant for the Collingwood project, while Hayball has been updating the masterplan for the project on Simmons Street in South Yarra, which will see 330 new homes delivered in stage one.
On his final day as acting premier, James Merlino remarked, "Our Big Housing Build is not only providing a roof over the heads of disadvantaged Victorians who need it – it's also producing thousands of local jobs and aiding our state's economic recovery."
“We're getting on with developing housing where it's needed most in regions like Collingwood and South Yarra — close to school, employment opportunities, health facilities, and transportation,” said Housing Minister Richard Wynne.
Dunlop Street, Ascot Vale, Marhham Street, Ashburton, Victoria Street, Flemington, Tarakan Street, Heidelberg West, Bill Street, Hawthorn, and Elizabeth Street, North Richmond are among the projects already underway.
